My week!

A lot of you know that we just moved to KY, so I am still familiarizing myself with all of the thrift stores here.  So far, I have pretty much stuck with Goodwill, but next week I am really going to be branching out to some of our other thrift stores and consignment shops.  This week I did go to a really great consignment shop here and found some GREAT deals on some back to school/fall clothes for the girls.
My goal on Saturdays will be to kind of wrap up my week's finds, and hopefully get to post some of your finds as well.  Hopefully you will get inspired!  With it being back to school time I want to encourage all of you to check out your local thrift stores.  Here are a few rules to get you started:
1.  Go in with an attitude of if I find something GREAT, if not, GREAT!  You don't want to force yourself to walk away with something, it can really take all of the joy out of the trip.
2.  Don't get overwhelmed.  Some of these stores don't have the best organizational skills, so especially if you are a beginner, take a deep breath and start small.  Maybe pick one area to look through and then stop when you are feeling like it is too much!
3.  Have FUN!!!

So I found some neat deals this week.  It would be hard for me to be more thrilled than I was this week.  Let me know what you think of my finds!!!

These next few pictures is a group that I bought at The Freckled Frog here in Frankfort...GREAT consignment store for kids things.

Brand New Keds for $4.99

Smocked dress by Yvonne
$4.99

Bailey Boys Scarecrow Outfit
$5.99

Silly Goose Smocked Fall Bishop
$5.99

The trick to consignment shopping is to look for half off sales and buy items that are going out of season.  All of these outfits were on the summer racks and were half off.  The KEDS were considered fall merchandise, but she had a SUPER price on them.  I walked out of that store with 3 great boutique outfits and some brand new back to school shoes for Maddy for $23.99 and that included tax!!!!

I went to a local Goodwill and found a fantastic deal on a Bath and Body Works candle holder.  For those of you that have been in a BBW lately I am sure that you have seen their beautiful silver candle and soap holders.  The new styles generally sell for $7.50 and the older styles for $5.00.  I found a spring edition for $.50.  I already have it out and it is so pretty!

Okay, I also had some great luck with back to school clothes for Cutie Pie at Goodwill...Check these out!  Prices and Brands will be listed underneath pics!

Heartstrings Peacock Dress $2.50
This would retail for app. $30-$40 brand new!

Ralph Lauren Polo Dress $2.50
This would retail around $50 brand new.

Pink Gap Sundress $2.50
This would retail around $30 brand new!!

By the way...let me apologize for being a terrible photographer!!!  Okay...now on to the
DEAL of the WEEK

I should say that I have a weakness for purses...lucky me, unlucky for my wallet.  At a local Goodwill I came across this deal!  I don't know if it is real or not, and I don't even care!  Hubby has tried to find out, but can't decide.  Even if it isn't real, a fake one of these can be around $200-$300, so I definitely came out on the winning side.  I got a Louis Vuitton for $3.00!!!

Now, I realize there is some fraying at the top, but seriously, when you get a Louis Vuitton for  $3.00, how picky can a girl be???

Looking forward to next week already!!!!  Remember to be on the lookout for your own deals.  Email me, and your deals might just be featured in next week's blog!!

In the Beginning...

We have THREE kids.  For those of you who don't know, this can be super expensive.  I, as a mom that loves beautiful things (think champagne taste and not even beer, but water budget) had to come up with a way to marry my taste with my budget in a complementary way.  I remember long ago thinking, I cannot imagine shopping at Goodwill....I thought that things there would be gross, and people's trash, and just all around nasty.  I was so wrong.  Little by little, I started to visit, I would just go in and walk around, take my time, and look at all the stuff.  I came to realize something very important:  So, I might have a gift, a weird gift, but a gift all the same.  My gift is this:  I can find some CRAZY deals.  I have plenty of people who will testify to this.  My sister and I were talking on the phone a few nights ago, and she said "You should start a blog, and teach people how to shop at thrift stores!"  I started thinking, maybe I should do that!!!  I would love to be able to teach people what to look for, and what is and is not a good deal.  I am so excited about the opportunity to talk to you guys about thrifty shopping, and hopefully this will help you keep a little more green in your wallet!
As we go along, I will post pics of all of my deals, and would love for you to send me pics of your fabulous finds!  I will try to impart all that I know to all of you, so that we can sparkle a little more thriftily!

Speaking of SPARKLE...these are some great, brand new BCBG heels that I got at Goodwill.  They have never been worn!!  I paid $5.00 for these shoes!  The trick to this is never rule anything out!  A lot of people might go into Goodwill, and they have the mindset of "This place is dirty and I won't be able to use anything in here."  Even more so, they will walk by the shoes and think "I cannot even consider wearing used shoes!!!  Super disgusting!"  I am going to be honest, some used shoes definitely are super disgusting, BUT not all shoes at Goodwill are used!!!  NEWSFLASH!  You can find some FANTASTIC deals if you can clear your mind of everything you think you are going to see.
I am so excited about this new blog, and will be updating VERY frequently, so make sure to follow me!!
